My lovely girlfriend picked me up a pair of Thorogood Moc Toe Boots for Christmas. I had been eyeing these for a few months as cheaper alternative to the Red Wing lifestyle model and I can now say they are even better than I had expected. The leather is supple, the colour is perfect, and they're just waiting to be broken in. I got the 6-inch model but they come in an 8-inch model as well if you want a little extra support. Thorogood boots are made by the Weinbrenner Shoe Company in Wisconsin who have been making boots since 1892. The boots feature a Vibram Christy sole, which should provide some comfort when walking in them all winter long. Due to the use of a Goodyear welt construction, which involves stitching the sole to the upper rather than gluing it, means that these will be repairable in the future. Paired with some denim you'll be set for the coming months, as I plan on doing.

Sweet boots. I saw these on EB's site (they are selling them for the fall) and I am pretty impressed. They would mix in well with my Red Wings and Chippewa boots.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Gabe
That would be an amazing mix. Thanks for reading.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the name of the leather color?
ReplyDeleteThe website I ordered them from just said tobacco brown
ReplyDeleteNow I got to buy these for my boyfriend, but since I live i Denmark I can't exactly go check them out in a store :(
ReplyDeleteI'm concerned what size to pick up on the Internet. So if you could tell me if they are true to size or do you need to buy them a half size smaller? I know my bf uses a 7,5 US in his last pair of Converse, but not sure if that's the same in boots..sigh
Cheers, Mai
Compared to my average size which is 11.5 I got these boots in a 10.5. So I would size down one whole size. Although Chucks tend to size large as well so that may need to be taken into consideration. Thanks for reading and I hope these boots work out for your boyfriend.
ReplyDeleteJust picked up a pair after reading your review.
ReplyDeleteExcellent looking boots and tehy arrived much quicker than expected too! How long did yours take to break in?
I got mine sent from America which meant I saved nearly £100 quid on the price Oi Polloi were asking too so top marks all round!
Jonathan
That's great to hear. I'd say they took about a month to break in as I did not wear them very often at first. I hope you enjoy the boots.
ReplyDeleteHi Chris,
ReplyDeleteIf my shoe size is a EUR 43,5 so i need to buy a size EUR 42,5?
Thanks. Andre
Hi Andre,
ReplyDeleteThat would probably be your best bet. Thanks for reading

Let me start by telling everyone reading that I am No way into material things . No obsessions . -- BUT .... Originally , about 6 months ago , I was looking into a pair of Moc toed boots that I had seen David Beckham wearing on his motorcycle . After doing a little research , I had found out that he was wearing RRL BRUNEL Moc toe boots . They are extremely hard to find ( thats #1 ) and are a little out of my price range ( I found a pair that was 2 1/2 sizes to big for me that were selling for almost $500 -- and they were used ) . --- So -- I wanted to see what else I could find . -- I found a couple of pairs that caught my interest . -- RED WING , CARHARTT , CAROLINA , and THOROGOOD . -- I always heard of the other companies but never Thorogood . -- I thought about it and thought about . I decided on trying the 8" Thorogood Moc Toe (non-safety) style 814-4201 . ($160.00) . I read many reviews and everyone said how great they are and how they are even better than Red Wings ( thats a bold statement , right ) ?? --- I ordered the size 10 D . -- When they arrived , I fell in love ! One of the BEST purchases I'd ever made ! The look-- the feel - the fact that they were made in the USA is always a plus - and the feel of the leather is un-describeable . I wore them for about 2 months off and on . They were well kept . But I was having a hard time with the roominess . ( I really should of ordered a size 9 1/2 D -- The 10 D's were just too big ). I didn't want to return them ( I don't think they would of taken them anyway after 2 months of wearing ). I wanted to keep them but figured that the older they got , the bigger they would get ( stretched out I'm guessing ) . -- So I decided to sell them on ebay and somebody out there got an Amazing deal !! ($70) -- The bigger problem was that I actually went into a flippin' depression because I no longer had the boots ! Crazy right ?? I had to wait 3 months while setting aside some money in order to get these back . Felt like forever ! - I have become obsessed with these Thorogoods !! Damn it !! -- I ordered a size 9 1/2 D and couldn't be happier !! They pair up nicely with Levis 511 Jeans ( Blue,Grey,Khaki, and Black ) The look great in a nice pair of Khakis . Instead of wearing my Black Steel toe boots with my Camouflage pants - I now wear these (matches perfectly) . And heck- I even threw them on real quick (un-laced but laces tucked in boots) with a pair of old khaki/cargo long"er" shorts at the quick in-n-out store . I never thought I'd wear those shorts - ever again !!-- Do they compare to Red Wings and all the others ?? Yes-yes-yes !! Even better lookin' !! -- So if you are looking for a fine pair of Moc toed boots - I highly Recommend Thorogood .Thank you so much for reading !!
